Globe Applauds President Marcos’ Pledge to Boost PH Connectivity

#Globe Telecom is heartened by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s commitment to bolster connectivity across the nation, which includes the utilization of shared towers and the initiation of policy reforms for a more rapid and efficient network expansion.

During his State of the Nation Address, President Marcos pledged to “utilize the concept of shared towers” and facilitate “policy reforms and streamlined processes” - measures that Globe has been advocating in various platforms to enhance connectivity.

The President also emphasized that digitalization should be the new norm in Philippine schools, an essential element in elevating the country’s education system.

“Globe is grateful to the President for prioritizing the enhancement of the nation’s connectivity infrastructure in his SONA. Our objectives align well, and we anticipate a continued partnership with the government and other stakeholders to realize our shared vision of a digital nation,” stated Ernest Cu, Globe’s President and CEO.

He pointed out how the targets set in Marcos’ SONA mirror Globe’s initiatives, including the optimal use of shared towers to make network builds more cost-effective.

Globe has been advocating for policy reforms, including amendments to the outdated National Building Code to categorize the internet as a basic necessity, eliminate lease fees for in-building solutions, and require the provision of space for telco infrastructure in buildings and property developments.

The company has also been urging for the full and effective implementation of Executive Order No. 32, which simplifies the permitting process for telco infrastructure.

Globe’s efforts to provide connectivity to Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) also align with the government’s initiatives to connect remote areas to the internet. To date, Globe’s network has reached over 500 GIDAs nationwide.

Globe also offers affordable connectivity for Filipino homes, including GFiber Prepaid, which was launched in accordance with the company’s advocacy for digital inclusion. GFiber Prepaid offers high-speed connectivity with no monthly bills and no lock-up periods.

“The government can rely on Globe as a steadfast partner in propelling the nation’s digitalization objectives. We are prepared to collaborate on necessary policy reforms and work more closely so that every Filipino can experience the transformative benefits of dependable connectivity,” Cu affirmed.

Globe is a member of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), a platform where private sector leaders directly engage with the President to collaborate on projects and reforms that will stimulate economic growth and improve Filipino lives.
