GCash Partners with Malay LGU to Boost ‘Cash-Lite’ Tourism in Boracay
#GCash has joined forces with the Municipality of Malay to enhance cash-lite tourism in Boracay Island via the town’s integrated ticketing payment system, the #eBoracay platform.

This collaboration allows tourists to conveniently pay terminal, environmental, and boat fees starting at Tabon Port of Malay, along with more transactions by visiting https://guest.eboracay.net. The portal is powered by its electronic payment and collection system provider, Surepay Technologies Inc. (SPTI).

“The integrated automated process and cashless payments will be accessible in more access ports heading to Boracay, as we contribute to building a secure and seamless cashless ecosystem that supports the sustainable development of one of the world’s top islands,” stated Jong Layug, the group head of GCash B2B.

Atty. Arnold Caballero, SPTI President, welcomed the collaboration and their agreement with the local government unit of Malay, emphasizing that collecting required fees via the Tabon Port entry is a crucial initial step towards offering ultimate convenience to tourists and Boracay residents.

“The enactment resolutions by Malay’s LGU paved the way for an integrated ticketing payment system aimed at consolidating processes and automating payments. It’s incredibly quick, and tourists will no longer have to manually write anything or search for cash in their wallets,” Caballero explained.

For more versatile cashless payment options, GCash also provides GCredit and GGives features that allow users to shop now and pay later. GCredit enables tourists to extend their travel budget by offering a credit limit determined by their GScore. This gives adventure enthusiasts more freedom to fully enjoy their vacation and experience the best things that Boracay has to offer, such as Paraw sailing, tour activities to Puka beach, cliff diving, and popular restaurants that accept GCash as a payment option, all while staying safe and without the need to withdraw cash.

Another cashless payment method is via the GGives feature, which allows users to pay for their transactions in up to 24 installments or “gives”, perfect for those who enjoy shopping sprees at D-Mall.

“Tourists no longer need to carry cash around and can easily pay in advance before their arrival on the island. Even local residents won’t have to queue as they can be booked through the system if they wish in the project’s next phase,” said Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista.
