Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering, stated, “As our network continues to grow, we are committed to ensuring equitable access to digital services across the Philippines, enabling Filipinos to fully engage in the digital economy.”
The barangays of Ilihan in Tabogon, Poblacion in Compostela, and Simala in Sibonga have traditionally struggled with reliable connectivity due to their geographical location and limited infrastructure.
Brgy. Ilihan, one of Cebu’s least populated communities with 3,818 residents, has had limited internet access due to its remote location. The new cell tower will significantly enhance residents’ access to information and services, promoting social engagement despite the rural setting.
In Brgy. Poblacion, Compostela, the new Globe infrastructure on Upper Guiwanon Road will benefit 12,573 residents. Despite being only 32 kilometers from Cebu City, the area has struggled with connectivity. The new tower will provide stronger and more reliable internet access, crucial for the town’s agricultural and dairy industries. Known for its “queseo,” a white cheese made from carabao or cow’s milk, Compostela is expected to leverage improved connectivity to reach wider markets.
Brgy. Simala in Sibonga, with a population of 3,388, will also benefit from Globe’s commitment to digital inclusion. The barangay, known for its tourism and agricultural activities, will greatly benefit from enhanced internet services.
Globe’s efforts mark a significant step towards narrowing the urban-rural digital divide, ensuring that even the most remote communities can participate in the digital economy.
