#Globe is ramping up its sustainability strategy, having transitioned 20 of its major facilities to 100% renewable energy (RE), with three more slated to follow by the end of the year.
In 2023, the 20 facilities account for approximately 65 million kilowatt-hours of energy consumption, including 7.9 million kWh from The Globe Tower (TGT) alone, all sourced from renewable energy. This enabled Globe to avoid emitting approximately 42,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in the same year.
This transition was made possible through Globe’s strategic partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity supply arm of ACEN, an Ayala company.
As of 2024, Globe operates a total of 29 RE-powered sites and aims to expand this to nearly 70 within the next two years, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability and RE adoption.
“At Globe, sustainability along with risk management, is a core strategy to building business resilience. In the face of climate change, RE powers both good grid and off-grid, so reducing our carbon footprint and making our network more climate-adaptive could only bear value to us. Therefore, the adoption of these technologies clearly demonstrates that business growth and resilience go hand in hand,” said Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe.
He cited the need for a strong partner in Globe’s RE shift. Out of 29 Globe sites shifted to clean energy so far, 20 are supported by ACEN under medium-to-long-term engagements.
"Digitalization and sustainability are at the very core of the Ayala group. We are excited to harness these synergies with Globe and help empower the Filipino people in a sustainable manner,” said Eric Francia, President and CEO of ACEN.
The collaboration with ACEN RES, which started in 2019, is a key component of Globe’s sustainability strategy. ACEN RES has established a strong reputation for delivering sustainable and reliable energy solutions across the Philippines and the region.
In recognition of its commitment to sustainability, ACEN RES awarded Globe the Powered by Renewable Energy badge for having shifted to 100% RE supply. This was unveiled during a ceremony at The Globe Tower.
“Truly, it's a milestone that we've achieved today. We are recognized by the leading renewable energy company in the Philippines as indeed making a major step towards sustainability. It is something that this management team has been very committed to, not only providing digital but providing it sustainably for the country,” said Cu.
Through its sustained focus on renewable energy and strong industry partnerships, Globe continues to solidify its role as a leader in environmental sustainability, positioning itself as a catalyst for positive change in the Philippine business landscape.
