GCash Eco Run in Manila Collective Action in Motion: Championing Sustainability

GCash Eco Run in Manila Collective Action in Motion: Championing Sustainability

#GCash is set to host its first-ever GCash Eco Run on March 23, 2025, along Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

The GCash Eco Run extends the #GForest digital eco-movement into real-world action, reinforcing GCash’s commitment to sustainability. Advocates, merchants of eco-friendly products, and running enthusiasts will come together to showcase green initiatives and responsible consumerism.

Each successful registration will contribute to the planting of one grey mangrove tree in Negros Occidental, furthering GCash’s reforestation efforts. This initiative, in collaboration with Silliman University, supports climate action and helps local communities affected by environmental degradation.

Scaling the Eco-Movement, One Tree at a Time

Growing along the Negros Occidental coastline, grey mangrove trees are vital in stabilizing shorelines, mitigating climate change, and protecting marine biodiversity. This project is a joint effort between GCash and Silliman University, which has been a key partner in mangrove restoration efforts across the country.

The trees planted through GCash Eco Run will be part of the Silliman University-GCash Reforestation Project, aiming to restore 1 million trees by 2029. With the active participation of local communities, this project fosters long-term ecological preservation.

Corporate Partnerships for a Sustainable Future

GCash empowers businesses to contribute to sustainability. Through GCash's collaboration with IKEA, the furniture giant pledged 30,000 trees under this initiative. IKEA’s strong commitment to circular economy principles aligns with GCash’s eco-movement, inspiring other corporations to take part in meaningful sustainability efforts.

“Sustainability is not just a trend—it is a responsibility. At IKEA, we remain committed to reducing environmental impact and supporting initiatives like the GCash Eco Run,” said Ricardo Pinheiro, Country Retail Manager of IKEA Philippines.

Meanwhile, Globe Telecom has also taken part in sustainability efforts through eco-friendly technology investments, further emphasizing collective action for climate advocacy.
